Ahh the world is your oyster here! Since the pandemic, businesses and organisations have been so much more open to supporting and collaborating with each other, that there really is no end to the number of possibilities here.
Some of the places that have worked well for us include:
- Community centres
- Church halls
- Coffee Shops
- Charity Venues
- Schools
- Libraries
- Youth Centres
- Shopping Centres
- Play Centres
The amount of money this costs us varies from venue to venue. If we partner with charities or similar, we often don’t pay any venue fees – but instead offer our services to children under their umbrella at a negotiated price. When we work with our local music service, we pay them a nominal fee of a couple of pounds to use their space – and, in return, we feed many of our youngsters into the service when they graduate from our programme. Sometimes, we will pay up to £25.00 per hour for a theatre or similar space, which we would deem prestigious and important for us to be present in. All of these costs are carefully factored into our budget, to ensure that running classes is always profitable in the space we are using.
Some of the things that we look at when choosing our venues include:
-
Do they have a room big enough for your 7 student stations, plus your own?
-
Do they have free parking, and enough of it?
-
Is it clean, friendly, welcoming? Is it warm? Would you be happy to bring your own children to a class here?
-
Do they have accessible toilets?
-
Is it easy to find, and is your room easy to reach within the building?
-
Do they have large enough tables, and enough chairs?
-
Do they have plenty of plug sockets around the room?
-
Do they have wi-fi or can you get good phone reception? No problem if not, but make sure you have all information and music needed downloaded to your phone.
-
Is it well-lit?
-
How will you get access? Will you be given a key, or will you need to wait for someone to let you in each week?
