How much work will I have to do as a Music Monsters’ franchisee?
Honestly? Initially, a lot. You are setting up a business – its going to involve some groundwork. You will need to complete your Music Monsters’ training, book your venues, advertise your classes, take your bookings (possibly with some free trials), learn your lesson plans, and grow your business. The first stage is a lot of work – but, oh my goodness, it is such an exciting time. I LOVE the excitement of a brand new business!
As time passes, the general running of your business will take less time – if you want it to. You will have less to learn, less to get to grips with, and word-of-mouth will do wonders to spread the news about you and your sessions. If I look at our flagship area, in Solihull, I don’t have to do very much now to maintain a steady stream of business. Most of my time is spent developing our new programmes (which you wouldn’t need to worry about doing), establishing new partnerships, and making bigger plans for the future of Music Monsters.
I currently teach classes for 12 hours each week during term time, spend some time responding to enquiries and general student admin, and
about 30 mins each week preparing for upcoming sessions. These are my absolute essentials. Other things I might do include networking, working on concerts/workshops, and dreaming up our next exciting ventures.
Some of the things we have introduced, to help free up more time for our
franchisees include:
Using a social media scheduling software, to schedule around 4 posts
each week for them, across all of their platforms. This means that, if they are too busy, their platforms are still active and busy! They continue to update them with local info, and live stories etc – but it takes the pressure off a lot. There is no charge for this, and has made a huge difference to amount of time they have to do other things.
Introducing monthly payments for students. This has freed up so much
time, as we no longer need to issues half-termly invoices, or chase payments! The retention is also higher, as students no longer have to choose to ‘opt-in’ every half-term. It’s a more regular payment, allowing parents to budget, and franchisees to know exactly what is coming in each month.
As a business owner, you will find that your mind is always buzzing with new ideas, and endless amounts of possibility. This is such an inspiring way to work, and it is so exciting to know that you can dream up an idea and make it a reality. You will always be learning, always be planning, always be imagining – but this is part of the joy that comes with owning your own business!
