Taking you behind the scenes of Music monsters
When I was just starting out as a music teacher and business owner, I would’ve loved to have had some insights from someone who had been there and done that. I thought it would also be interesting for you to see the achievements of our franchisees this year, and some of the amazing things they have been doing!
At the end of every year, I take stock of how things are going in my business and life. To help me do this, I run through these questions:
- What are our biggest wins and accomplishments of this year?
- What were the biggest challenges we faced?
- Did we meet all of our growth targets?
- How are we feeling?
- What are the biggest lessons learnt this year?
- What are the biggest opportunities for next year?
- What will we NOT be taking forwards into next year?
Make a note of these and I recommend finding a quiet half an hour or so where you can apply these to your own journey. Let’s dive in!
What are our biggest wins and accomplishments of this year?
- Our franchisees grew their businesses by an incredible 61%, without working any extra days!
- We launched our new schools' programme, working with children from Hong Kong and from Ukraine
- We joined an amazing new Mastermind, investing in our own support and education
- We sold our flagship Music Monsters' branch, welcomed our newest franchisee, and opened a brand new branch in the North East
- We ran an incredible summer programme
- We (nearly nearly nearly) sold out our launch party for newest branch (we have 3 spaces left to sell, and I'm pulling out alllllll the stops!!!)
- We continued to home educate our own kids, creating so many exciting opportunities for them to pursue their own interests, thanks to the time freedom we have created in our business
What hasn't gone so well this year?
- Having alllll the ideas, and not enough time to implement them
- Sleep and exercise fell to the bottom of the pile!
Did we meet all of our growth targets?
This is the first year that we have tracked and measured so many parts of our business. This year, we started, just to get into the habit of tracking, and without setting unrealistic goals. Next year, now that we know what to expect, we will set targets for each of the following metrics:
– Revenue
– Profit
– Email list
– Instagram followers
– Facebook followers
– Number of enquiries, and from which sources
– Website hits
– Number of active students
– Number of cancellations
– Number of new students
How are we feeling?
Excited by the new year, and the new opportunities it presents! We have moved house over the holidays, will be launching a new branch next week, and have soooo many exciting plans for 2024. However…we also need to prioritise our health and self-care, as we have a tendency to burn the candle at both ends a little…! Exercise, sleep, hydration, supplements, nutrition, fresh air – all of these will take priority in January to get us back on track.
What are the biggest lessons learnt this year?
I’ve learnt a few!
1. I can’t do it all. It is so so so important to have a team around you to allow you to do the things that you really really shine at. One of the best things about being part of a franchise network, is being your own boss AND having a team of cheerleaders and support around you! Trying to do all the things, all of the time just leads to burn-out.
2. We need to be very solutions focused – there is an answer to every obstacle! One of the biggest obstacles for new franchisees, is the worry that they will not be able to attract customers. We have introduced a brand new bonus to alleviate this worry! We will be helping all new franchisees to host their own (all expenses paid) launch party, to get their first 48 students through the door. (48 students, if all signed up to regular lessons = approx. £2,200 per month, teaching 3 hours per week)
What are the biggest opportunities for next year?
Ahhh…..so many!!
- We want to continue increasing the traction and excitement surrounding Music Monsters, reaching even more kids, supporting even more music teachers in creating an awesome life and business for themselves and their families
- We have plans for the launch of our Practice Pod for kids, our Music Monsters podcast for music teachers, our newest schools' programme, our first festival appearance!
- We want to grow our support of children's mental health, partnering with more charities to help youngsters facing these struggles
- 2024 is the year for music teachers to take back their lives, their passions, their loves, their time, their freedom!!!!!!
What will we NOT be taking forwards into next year?
A small voice. We will be entering into 2024 with our biggest, loudest voices, singing the message of fun and accessible music education for all children AND advocating for frustrated music teachers who bloody deserve better!
This is a super honest review of our business and life journey and it feels a little bit vulnerable sharing it with you! But I like to see what goes on behind the scenes and I’m happy to contribute to the conversation around music teaching and creating the life we want to live!
What stood out for you?
If your review has shone a light on where you might need support to create the music teaching business of your dreams, I’d love to help you get there. Hit reply with the word “SUPPORT’ and I’ll send you the details of how our Music Monsters’ franchises could be just what you are looking for in 2024.
Thanks for being here and allowing me to share this with you.
